Bloomiere

Bloomiere redefines the ceiling and adds another dimension to it that is not solely decorative nor solely functional. It combines both aesthetics and functionality through its mechanical and technological processes of blooming and illuminating. Activated by people during the day and at night, Bloomiere opens and closes based on people’s movement underneath. When someone walks underneath Bloomiere during the day, it opens up to provide shading for the participant. When the participant walks away, Bloomiere retreats back to its original position. At night, Bloomiere responds to low light levels by illuminating a variety of colors. When someone walks underneath Bloomiere at night, not only does it open up, but it also increases the speed of the light color changes. This produces an exciting and stimulating environment for the participant and observers nearby. As a result, Bloomiere activates the ceiling and the space underneath it by adding a layer of meaning and environmental information for people to experience, thus creating a third space.
